Not my house, but I have original tiles in my bathroom similar to these. https://www.flickr.com/photos/78590035@N06/48045818143/
Not sure of the exact age but I'd guess late Victorian/Edwardian. The grout is missing in a lot of places and a grubby grey brown in the rest. I'd like to replace it but I'm not sure what colour would be appropriate. I'm think white might be too bright? off white? something dark to highlight the lines?
What colour grout for subway tiles?

Definitely not bright white, that wouldn't have been around originally plus I think it would look poor against off-white tiles.
Beyond that it's personal choice I'd say - I've seen a cream colour used that I think was original and looked OK, I've seen a grey colour used that I think was original (or was just old & discoloured!) that I think looked better.
"Kerakoll" do a large range of colours and is a decent brand - they do sealant to match if you need it as well.

It depends how you plan to decorate the rest of the bathroom. If you were having any painted areas then you could be bold and get a coloured grout to go with and make it a feature. A safe choice would be something just one shade darker than your tiles, so not bright white, but a pale limestone or very pale grey. If you ignore the “glitter grout” section ( yes really it’s a thing ) then this is a fun read https://www.thespruce.com/ways-colorfu ... le-4079416 maybe not your thing, but an example of a dark colour and matching paint https://www.instagram.com/p/BgwYQRiH3n ... e=ig_embed

Hmmm - the bathroom I'm in the midst of refitting will have 3 fully tiled ones and one painted one, no colour chosen yet for the paint, matching the grout is an option I hadn't thought of, thank you Lady A......

Thanks. I tried a couple of samples. The grey looked good on Ron's tiles, but it turns out mine were a bit wonky for highlighting the joints. I've ended up with an off-white which looks so much better (and cleaner!) than before.
