I have Deal wood joists (all new untreated soft wood but with a nice tight grain and the knots are firm and don't drop out) that were installed back in early summer. I have not been able to finish them but have time in a few weeks to do this. Going to use Osmo Polyx oil.
My problem/concern is that I think I am going to find some areas of darkened wood, my Mum refers to it as 'silvering'. What can I do to remove this first please before applying the OSMO oil. Ideally I don't want to sand as the joists have routered edges identical to the rotten ones taken down which would show if I did anything other than a very fine sanding.
I am also not staining the wood, going to let it age on it's own as the joists taken out were not stained and have a wonderful patina/colour (I've used them elsewhere as it were only the bearing ends that were completely rotten).
Any help greatly appreciated please as I don't want to seal in the 'blackened' bits.
