The previous owners of my Victorian house put a coat of plastic-like goo on some ceilings that has a raised stilling effect that is very spiky and hard to the touch. My builder advised two things:
- to scrape it off, which is impossible
- to plaster over it.
Due to other building works I can see how the ceiling is constructed. It is wooden lathe and and a failry thick layer of plaster - about 1 1/2 inchs, hanging, it seems, from the joists.
I'm concerned that the weight of a new layer of plaster might result in the ceiling coming down, as it would have to be think to cobver the spiky layer.
Can anyone in the forum tell me what this stuff is and how I might remove it/cover over it?
Thanks
Helena
