I have seen, delivered and fitted hundreds of sash windows delivered to site. However it obvious from this post that it is a very long time since you did.
The application of health and safety regulations make delivering a sash window fully assembled almost impossible because of the weight involved.
Most good joineries would pre-assemble the window and then dismantle it for transportation to site, where it can be safely reassembled without infringing health and safety regulations.
This is not a wimp out, or hiding behind health and safety regulations. Someone as old as you must be aware that they don't send little boys up chimneys to sweep them anymore.
