There are actually two types of electric Aga - the old one is the economy-7 type that charges up overnight. I have heard that some people have had problems with the elements in these - which are very expensive to fix. They also need a heavy duty supply, and are significantly more expensive to buy compared to oil or gas. More recently Aga have bought out the 13Amp version you have been recommended - probably in response to critiscism of the old type. The new electric cooker uses a totally different type of element, that is on all the time, and simply plugs into a standard 13Amp plug point. The initial cost of the cooker is similar to oil or gas. To compare running costs, get the Aga brochure as they detail how many units or litres of oil each type/size of cooker takes to run, so you can work it out. I believe the new electric is fairly comparable to oil - the old electric was a lot more expensive.
Both electric types still vent to the outside, though they only use a small bore pipe, and is fan assisted, and the new electric is more flexible with how this can be run.
I only know all this because I too cannot install an oil Aga in the position I want, when I do the kitchen next year, so I started to investigate further!
