The mortar on my house is relatively old. Clearly it isn't fresh and new, but I think its structurally OK, and the wear gives the building some of its character. There are some holes in places, but nothing alarming / that came up on purchase survey.
However, I didn't grow up in an old building, and I've not owned one before. So refined judgements about how to maintain, undertake minor repairs with the correct materials etc is currently beyond me.
If I ask a repointing company to come round I'm pretty sure they will want to repoint the whole place and make it look fabulous. I don't want this so:
- Does anyone know a traditional brickwork tradesperson - perhaps one toward the end of their career or who's retired but still takes on occasional smaller work - active in the Chelmsford (Essex) area, who would be willing to come round, give me the benefit of their experience and probably get invited to do a bit of remedial work? DM is fine if posting contact details in the forum isn't seen as the right thing to do.
Thanks
Steve
