We'd like to put wall-to-wall fitted carpet in a ground floor room on top of existing quarry tiles (it's an old scullery now to be used as a lounge). We've kept the tiles in the adjoining kitchen, and will take care not to damage the ones under the carpet, but for now fancy just the one room with carpet!
Our challenge is this: there is a tiny amount of 'damp' coming up through the floor. Only noticeable in specific areas where we had cardboard boxes on the floor for several months - the bottoms were slightly damp (not mouldy). It's enough, though, for me to realise it needs to breathe and so the usual rubber underlay is probably a bad idea.
Don't have any desire to rip up the tiles or worry about dpc etc, as this is clearly barking. But do fancy a carpet rather than a rug.
SO... anyone know if you can get breathable underlay (seem to recall a post some years ago on this) and if normal good-quality woollen carpet is breathable enough on top of this?
Appreciate any help.
Thanks
Phil
