We have a thatch so the insurers stipulate that the chimney must be swept twice a year. Unfortunately, having arranged for the chimney to be swept in advance of the certificate expiring, the current virus situation has meant that the sweep has had to stop work so as not to spread Covid-19 from from one house to another. That was fair enough so I told the insurers and asked what we do without a certificate. They said there was going to be a conference call about this to decide what to do about it and other certified safety checks (electrical etc) for other people. We're now several weeks down the line and, despite chasing it, all we've had is "wait and see". Our chimney sweeping certificate has now expired so our woodburner has to remain unlit and it still gets cold here. On the one hand, I feel that my concerns about this are unreasonable because there are far worse things going on for others but my patience is starting to run out given the premiums we pay for the policy which is now affecting how we live.
I wondered if anyone else is in the same boat with their insurance certificates and what their insurers are doing about it and what I've misunderstood to make me feel it's unreasonable not have made a decision about this yet? I don't like giving the insurers a hard time about this but they've had weeks to come up with a solution yet here we are, waiting in a cold house!
If anyone can provide me with a reasonable solution that works for their insurers, I'd be very grateful if they could they let me know so I can pass it onto ours and we can move on?
