This is a pathetic admission of my lack of imagination, but what kind of fixings do people use in lime plaster walls, for things like pictures, curtain rails, etc?
I've just been trying to put up a new curtain rail on probably the oldest wall in our house, and nothing seems to hold (the curtains are quite heavy). I tried screws through the plaster into a lath. I tried those plastic self-tapping threaded plug thingies. No joy.
Needless to say, when the builder built the house in the 18th century, he didn't put the studs in the right place for my curtain rail brackets. Twit!
I'm loath to plant a board on the wall, screwed to the studs, because this carries the curtains out into the room, reducing their anti-draught effect, but unless anyone has any other bright ideas, I suppose it's all I can do.
