Wonder if I could get some advice
We have some solid stone external walls suffering with damp from a high outside ground level. We had some builders in who suggested digging a trench down to top of foundations, lining with a membrane and then filing with stone. No drain inside. This was done in October and the damp is getting worse. The more I think about it, is this not essentially a moat around the house with nowhere for the water to drain? I feel they were well intentioned, but have failed a little on logic!
Does anyone have any suggestions as to how we could remedy this? Photos below:
