One of the fireplaces we are restoring has inset tiles - the picture below shows its previous state before the paint was stripped and the tiles removed.
The next job is to retile it before we can reattach it to the wall. There are two rectangular grids on the rear of the fireplace that will support the tiles but I'm not sure how the tiles are best fitted to these as there is a gap of approximately 15-20mm between the grid and the surface of the fireplace the tiles should align with. I did wonder whether a piece of cement board similar to those used for bathroom tiling would be suitable mount for the five tiles, which could then be inserted between the grid and the fireplace and then clamped in position by tightening the securing nuts on the grid.
Any advice on this would be much appreciated.
