Thinking further about carbon emissions and making our lifestyle greener etc it occurs to me that one doesnt need to make zero carbon electricity at home. Getting our central London townhouse rigged up with roof panels etc would be a serious pain and possibly wouldnt get past the planners.
Why not buy a little plot of land in the middle of nowhere, but close to an electricty main, build a windmill/erect solar panels or whatever one is supposed to do, then post the electrons down the grid to one's home? At the same time one could plant the odd tree to soak up some carbon.
Or perhaps one could outsource this activity to someone who could do it on a larger and more efficient scale, so one wouldnt have the problem of maintaining the equipment or having it nicked by the local youth? Can one buy green electricity?
