I've managed to strip the gloss painted wallpaper downstairs and am fighting with textured paint from the 1950s. It's a thin emulsion-like paint rather than artex and will come off with a steamer with enough patience, but the walls could do with a skim anyway.
Modern approach is to paint on extensive green stuff and then paint on top, but I don't believe the green stuff is breathable and I have some damp I want to let out of the wall.
Has anyone been in the same position and found a solution?
