I have some reclaimed tiles that I’m thinking about using as a kitchen worktop. It may be a daft idea but if I were to use them they’d need to be sealed with something suitable i.e. is hard-wearing, will withstand staining and of course is non-toxic. Does anyone know of a suitable sealant?
Oils and waxes aren't very durable, they just reduce, not eliminate, porosity, but are easier to reapply. Film forming finishes (like Multifinish) are more hardwearing and stain resistant, but when they wear you need to strip them off and recoat. It's a trade off.
