Repairing and retouching stucco facade

I had my 1840 stucco house lime washed about seven years ago and it's now scaffolded for window painting and gutter repairs. The first question is how to repair this:

It's a poor photo, but it shows a major chip in a stone cill where some decorative ironwork is fixed. It was repaired some time ago, but the repair has now failed. Should I use some lime-based concoction, or something more modern? The overall facade looks like this:

It has failed because there is nothing solid for the repair to hold onto so carefully use a drill or multitool to undercut the edges so they are narrower at the surface than in the depths. Texturise the surface with a drill too.
It looks from the photo as if your facade is unpainted in which case try to colour match as well as you can by finding some fine sand from the local building stone

I know lots about lime but stone repairs are not my area of expertise so someone may say otherwise but I would wet it down well and then use a stiff mix of 1 part NHL3,5 to 1.5 parts sand.

It is late in the year to be doing this work so it will set slowly. Drape something around it to protect from frost - right over the winter if you can bear to

It's also jolly late in the year to be doing external window painting** considering that depending what paint you are using the air and wood temperature needs to be above X during application and drying, and the humidity below Y. Check the relevant paint data sheet, do not take the word of your painter.

The stone has blown off because the embedded iron has rusted and expanded. This is difficult to fix. The iron needs to be exposed, derusted, treated with Jenolite, then painted with an epoxy two-pack. Then repair the stone with a lime mix as suggested, but where it surrounds the iron it needs to be slightly raised like a mini volcano so the water will run away.

** which for various bad reasons I am, using NSP instead of the intended linseed. For MSP the requirement is a min of 46F (8C) and a max humidity of 80%. Here in the west there are few days now when this is achievable. Mostly too cold or too humid. One can of course turn a blind eye, I've seen painters wipe the frost off with a rag and slosh away, but it won't last.

Facebook. I never post anything on my timeline any more but I follow a couple of groups. Nigel still updates there when he has anything interesting house or clock related to share. Iirc he used the copperas? limewash on the house with dark green windows
