Gable sandstone wall of Victorian house with dampness penetrating and finding its way to internal walls. I'm thinking about using stormdry cream?

I have an external sandstone wall with chimney. It faces north and I can see moss where the rain has run down. Dampness penetrates at certain points and has now made its way to the internal wall downstairs.
I am thinking of applying stormdry cream after removing the moss?

I believe there are mixed opinions about this.

There are some good posts on this on the site.

I did a little bit of research as I may have to do this. I’m still unsure/undecided on what to do.

Cornish lime sell Beeck SP Plus that I believe has had some very good results.

We have an exposed gable wall that can get battered with constant wind driven rain and it has appeared inside ahh!

The period solution would have been to hang tiles or slates on the wall

Yes I'm going to have another good look. The wall has been pointed but there is a small
area that previously had been pointed with concrete!

You also mentioned there’s a chimney on this wall? Chimneys are notorious for leaking and allowing water to run down into gable walls. That’s probably the first port-of-call for a careful inspection, then the actual roof condition near that wall.

Then looking at any nearby rainwater hardware (guttering downspouts etc.).

It’s also definitely worth getting up into the loft / attic space to see if the gable is wet on the inside face all the way up there.

From there you might move onto checking ground levels on that side of the house. It’s possible the dampness you found inside the house originated from the ground and not the sky.

After that you’d probably move on to inspecting allthe pointing, the detailing on any window reveals on that wall, etc.

A picture of the wall in question would be very helpful. But all of things should be thoroughly inspected before taking the lazy way out (no offense) and just smearing the wall with some kind of cream.

I'll try and send pictures. I've done my best to maintain my roof and it is frustrating.
I agree though it is maybe the easy way with cream
