Where/when do we draw the line

I can empathise with those who have pushed for this but I do wonder who decides where the line is and who may/may not cross it.

Thought provoking. Who decides on the 'standard' type of windows / doors allowed. E.g; may some be allowed leaded replacements or are sashes the standard. Do the doors need to be a certain type or do they allow leeway for different period houses. I'd at least hope the vernacular styles are taken in to account.

According to the council, the "majority" of buildings in the village are not listed and are "at risk" from changes that could have a "significantly harmful effect".

I wonder why they did not decide to simply list all the properties?

ease of time and effort I imagine.

It’s effectively the same outcome, permitted development rights revoked, but in one fell swoop rather than individual properties having to be added to a very slow process of listing. I believe getting something listed now is quite hard…

I did paint my door yellow one year & was told by one neighbour that I could not do that so I painted the windows as well within a few months lots of other people started painting there windows & door the same colour so I painted the door blue instead & the windows boring white hate copy cats LOL

There’s one house on The Royal Crescent in Bath with a yellow door, others are all white ( or oneof the1,000versions of white which exist ) and it was a celebrated case back in the day. I wish I had had deep enough pockets to divert the Bath Bus Tour company away from where I used to live, the amount of panicked diving for the curtains in the morning as curious tourists came past at eye level to our bedroom window…

I know exactly what you mean, although our bedroom is beyond prying eyes. Have been caught sneaking my rubbish containers back inside in my PJ’s a few times. Polishing the door furniture always results in people trying to look inside the house whilst studiously trying to appear like they aren’t looking inside the house. I don’t mind too much because I claim exemption for being nosey when I am a tourist in other places.
