Shot blasting beams if fairly routine.do not under any circumstances consider 'shot blasting'
Curtilage listed barns that are being renovated near mine had all their timber shot blasted and I'm blown away by how well it's come out.
I think they use soda beads. Metal isn't used on wood. I've seen sand being used, but I think it's more aggressive than soda.
I know some don't like the texture after blasting, but that's a whole other topic. If you're painting over timber clad, it wouldn't concern me at all. Anything that doesn't survive blasting needs replacing anyway.
