Shot blasting beams if fairly routine.
Curtilage listed barns that are being renovated near mine had all their timber shot blasted and I'm blown away by how well it's come out.

I think they use soda beads. Metal isn't used on wood. I've seen sand being used, but I think it's more aggressive than soda.

I know some don't like the texture after blasting, but that's a whole other topic. If you're painting over timber clad, it wouldn't concern me at all. Anything that doesn't survive blasting needs replacing anyway.

It is not! Sand or other Media Blasting techniques are used to clean wood. One of the two forms of Shot Blasting employs pretty much the same machinery but the steel, and other metals used in shot blasting, would never be used due to the facts that those materials are too aggressive, could become embedded in the timber and/or result in considerable new staining of the woods surface - if, of course it left any wood at all behind.

I repeat, Shot Blasting is entirely inappropriate and would thoroughly destroy even a sound piece of softwood and severely damage a hardwood.

I've only just realised the point you are making. It's an English argument.

I'm using the term shot blasting as a general term.

I'm not talking about using metal shot blasting here.
In common English it's common to say shot blasting regardless of the media type used. At least in my circles.

Now I understand what you mean in your earlier posts.
