Hello all
On my extensive to-do list I have a modest amount of re-pointing to do ... this is an 1840s brick house (solid walls, no DPC). There are some relatively small areas where the brickwork has been "repaired" with cement render which needs to come out and be repointed in lime.
Because it's not a huge job I'm thinking it might be tricky to find someone to do it for me, especially if they need to synchronise with other trades (that I definitely won't be doing myself). I have no experience with this, though I consider myself to be reasonably handy.
I see that there are several people offering half or whole day courses in lime pointing. Would anyone care to share recommendations? Cornish Lime in Bodmin seem to get a lot of mentions, but that's 4 hours away. Carrington Lime in Glos is a lot closer - does anyone have experience of their training?
In an ideal world I'd also like to learn a little about the lime plastering process. Not with a view to doing it myself - there's a lot of that to do and it will be very visible - but at least to help me understand the process so I can keep up when choosing and working with a contractor.
