Thanks Stuart for the tree wall ideas and the cracked arch. Strangely enough I spotted this same brick detail on a wall coming back from the reclamation yard earlier today. I've been hunting for some bricks with a good face and two ends.

One of the challenges to this side project is the tree is messing up the symmetry! I'll have look at some layouts soon.

I've spent some time looking at the tree wall and am still trying to work out what to do. The shape of the tree is inconvenient for anything symmetrical in that a large gap will exist between vertical brickwork and the trunk.


On the right side there seems to be an obvious line to run the brickwork to. On the left side, the existing brickwork is staggered to leave a smaller gap to the trunk. There seem to be two possibilities here denoted by the red and green lines. I wasn't too keen on altering the left side too much but suspect this will be necessary.

What would you do?
