Hi all,
I have a 1930s ex-council flat in East London (built by the East End Dwellings Company) that still has its original flooring: maple (i think) floorboards which are nailed down directly into the poured concrete floors/ceilings. I keep ruining socks and catching my feet on the nails that are working their way up and not sure how to go about rectifying this. If it was nailed into a joist or wooden batten, it would be straightforward, but because the nails go directly into the concrete, I'm at a loss. Some of the nails come out but some are really in there (even though they're poking up).
What should I do? Pull them out if I can, and put what in it's place? a new nail? a bigger nail? Are there special types of nails for this? They look like iron edges rather than a traditional "nail" with a head.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
