Accessing Chimney

Hi folks

I've got scaffold to ridge level. What do you think safest way of access chimney is to change cowls? I'm thinking either from roof ridge via a roof ladder, or a ladder from the scaffold on gable end side

If the ladder has too steep a pitch accessing the chimney from the gable end, which seems likely, I'd go with the roof ladder, but watch your toes on the slates.

I'd definitely agree with Stevers. He's also spot on about your toes. I've recently broke one of mine at the end of the job painting the gable between the 2 roofs.

If you go with the gable access, at any sort of height I like my ladders to be tied in, because comedy moments in DIY life are definitely best avoided!

Has the gable got waist high barriers and kick boards like at the front? If so, I'd go up roof. Better to role off the roof and be stopped in your tracks there vs a drop from the gable
