I've had this on my to do list for ages but just as i've gone to do it I thought "what could go wrong".
Standard Victorian semi. I want to convert the upstairs rear bedroom into a bathroom (above the kitchen in the 'dog leg' bit of the semi layout). The old ceiling will probably need to come down, and directly above where the bath is going we have the remnants of a chimney stack on gallows brackets on the party wall. I thought it would be best for the sake of future proofing to just remove the rest of this to save any hassle later. The mortar is very weak so the bricks can come out with hand tools. I was planning on taking out most of the bricks but leaving any that are toothed in to the wall.
Is there any downside to this? The neighbour isn't bothered. Not sure what that bottom course is made of.

Thanks in advance for any help!
