Bathroom extractor fans failing

Right - our ensuite has an inline extractor mounted in the loft above it and venting outside. It’s a ~3m run with two swept 90 bends in it, and the fan is mounted in the middle.

In the last 5 years we’ve gone through 3 extractors fans, the 2x Manrose barely lasting a year each and the Xpelair I switched to most recently lasting 2 years.

Has the quality of this stuff just got worse as the prices have got relatively cheaper or is there something I’m missing?

I have the Manrose inline one in the flat and I was a bit shocked when it popped its clogs after about 5 years so sounds like I got a good one. Must ask my son if the replacement is actually still working.

Is condensation running back into it perhaps? Or its in a position where it gets very hot?

The whole loft space gets very hot to be fair - slate roof with no felt so it’s an absolute oven up there when the sun is out - learned the first summer we moved in when a box of candles stored up there became one big rectangular candle.

Come to think of it this one started making its end of life grinding noises during the recent spell of warm weather.

Hmm not sure that’s easily solvable - I did consider stapling a thin foil to the under side of the joists to try and reflect the radiated heat from the underside of the slates but could never convince myself it would actually make a difference …

Nuclear option - finally get round to fitting solar panels as those would shade the slates nicely - bit excessive excessive just to save £50 a year in extractor fans though

I don't know extractor fans, but couldn't you fit one at either end? Might it be cooler if it is on the outside wall, or wherever it vents?
