Hi
We have beams in our kitchen that, one day, we'd like to take back to their natural colour as they appear to have been stained with something. I've read loads here about doing this with the pros and cons about sandblasting (probably not an option as we need to live in the house while it's being done). Klingstrip sounds good but I think is better for paint and, as I mentioned, the beams seem to be stained. Consequently Solvistrip might be the answer but I can't find much about this method - does it also need diluting with vinegar to try to prevent darkening that I've read about with Klingstrip? Is Peelaway7 better? It's not a small room and I'd prefer to avoid a mechanical method if possible (ie wire brush on drill etc). Can anyone tell me if Solvistrip is likely to be the best answer for wood that's stained instead of painted.
I'm also open to suggestions about leaving the beams as they are but lessening the effects of dark beams with a clever interior design trick - my wife mentioned some kind of "lime-washy light wax" - is this a possibility? Might it be easier to add a couple of days to the general project and empty the room completely, seal it and get the sand/chemical blasters in? I don't know how much this might cost but I'm guessing it ain't cheap.
Any advice much appreciated.
