Belfast / Butler sink on bricks - any pics, anyone?

Hi

I'm about ready to have my Belfast sink installed and I'd like to have it on bricks - a single 'wall' each side, underneath it. However, I'm unsure how this will look. Does anyone have any pictures that might give me an idea? Failing that, how have others installed theirs? I'm open to ideas, although I don't want it set in a wooden unit and I'm not having a fitted kitchen. Thanks.

Ours is going to sit on single brick pillars, but it's going to be a couple of months before it's in yet!!!!!!!

You can buy cast iron brackets and legs and also I've seen ceramic legs, but bricks are traditional, often painted white.

Work fine, and if required doors can be attached or a shelf fitted.

Here's our Belfast on brick piers. I haven't put the shelves and doors under the sink yet, so you can see the ghastly plumbing.

Have a close look at the rather dim "before" photo and you can see where the corner of the metal sink was plastered deep into the wall.

When I removed the metal sink, there was still the mortar on the wall from the previous piers supporting what I guess must have been a similar sink.

Here's What I've done with my sink. The detailed bricks are normally to be found under the eaves and turned the other way up, but I picked these up from a salvage yard and thought they'd make a nice feature, or at least when I get round to fitting the skirting and dado moulding

Has anyone used these people? I'm looking at them because they're not too far and I might be able to visit them this summer to look at the floor samples. They also have sink bases.

Excuse the early post, next doors chickens wake me at the crack of dawn!

A few weekends ago they repeated a series called the Reclaimers on tele which featured Tommy Walsh and Will Mockett making things from stuff they found in a reclamation yard. In one of them they built a sink unit with bricks and a belfast sink, it looked lovely, just like the pics above. Just had a quick look and saw that that episode is being repeated today at 1pm on Discover RT Extra. Not sure if you have Sky but if anyone does its channel 252. Looks like the series is on the same time each day and is well worth a look, they made some excellent stuff.

When I was little and ceramic sinks were the norm (I used to get bathed in ours!) the brick pillar method (as in Matt's pic) was used and a curtain strung across the space under, often gingham.

Alice - your kitchen furniture place looks interesting, nice stuff!

Watched the programme Lindy mentioned and it's completely made my mind up. The builder is working on it now, although we're having to push the wall back a bit to accommodate the depth of the sink and the taps I've chosen :roll: Just another slight detour but it's all on track now. Thanks to everyone who helped out with this

I logged out and logged in again as me and that seemed to have cured it, but worrying...

A bit OT, BUT my sister-in-law had her kitchen refitted with a "modern" Butler sink. Because a, the walls of the sink are thin and b, the worksurface had a very narrow overlap on the underneath there was insufficient room at the back for a good silicon goo waterseal. What then happened, the underneath of the back of the WS cracked due to the chipboard core expanding with its dampness followed a month later by the top bulging and cracking. They are waiting for the outcome.

Nemesis, thank you so much for notifying me about this. Thank goodness it was someone nice like you!! I've changed my private password but, like you said, it worrying that it allowed you into my account using my public password. I don't understand that.
