Bread oven

Hi there I have a couple of period properties that I own one. I am currently living in. It’s in the 1800s and next-door to the fireplace is a beautiful bread oven. I do not have a door for it. I’m wondering where I could possibly find a door that would fit.

Did it originally have a door? They don't always. Show us a picture! Are there fixings for a door which has been removed?

At that age it was likely iron rather the wooden. They don’t fare too well sadly… I’ve never seen one in any rec yard, but you may be lucky.

There are specialist online fireplace companies, names escape me, may be able to source one.

Alternatively, get a local blacksmith to make you. Assuming You’re going to reinstate the oven and actually need to be closed?

Not the best photos it’s a beautiful feature. If it had a door on it you wouldn’t be able to see inside it. If I don’t put a door on it it’s just a hole in the wall. I’m at a loss. I really am. It looks like there’s been a door on it in the past

Yeah, built with iron frame and you can see the pintiles/latches for the door…

Really depends what you’re trying to achieve. Trying to replicate what would have been there if functionally unnecessary, feels a bit contrived.

Assuming it won’t be brought back into use, I’d leave it be.

No I won’t use it as it’s in the sitting room next to the fire place the cat has sort of claimed it

To be fair, with such a heavy stone surround and recess, the missing door is less obvious.

Jus a thought but a google search on 'pizza oven doors' comes up with some interesting options.
