Ceiling medallion/rose paint

I am going to paint one of our ceiling medallions, does any one here in PP have a painted medallion (preferably original or restored) you’re willing to post for reference

Hey Ron, a google search on 'painted ceiling medallions' produces some very good examples and seemingly with wide variations of design and scale.

Cubist, yes, there are lots of examples on the net with various techniques and skill levels. I guess my question should be will some one make up mind for me on how to proceed . The boss is of no help, she tells me what ever I want, that’s like asking the question “does this look good on me” no good will come of that answer.
I am actually hoping there are some unrestored examples out there to reference, metallic colour schemes, flat colour schemes along with highly detailed colour schemes.

I think you're between a really large rock and a very hard place there Ron. Given the nature of the decorations though you might draw some inspiration from the colour palette Carvaggio favoured and perhaps a small Italian crystal chandelier if the ceilings high enough to carry one off.

Cubist, thanks for the suggestion, I found one of Caravaggio paintings showing what it could look like if I had the artistic skills. But I think I might give it a try, never know I might surprise my self and pull it off.

I would worry too much - so few people actually look up noones likely to spot a few gaffes.

It’s got a lot of paint on it already which is hiding the details and it would look really nice if you stripped all that off before you painted it. Our decorative plaster had also suffered the same, but there was so much of it I could not face the task, cleaning it was bad enough, but one ceiling rose wouldn’t be a monumental undertaking. Our most decorative rose is actually a newly made one because what was there was a modern thing and not great and it’s painted a very neutral colour, so not very helpful unfortunately.

Its nice though having a AD (Artificially Dumb) device to blame.

An update on my ceiling medallion project, it is finished.

Looks god enough to eat and takes me back to Rome, Naples, Florence, Milan.

I think Ron, that you've discovered a hidden talent - good on yer.

In my book that particular hallmark is more than surpassed by the number of occasions you, or I for that matter, have failed to observe the First Rule of Thumb.

I have eleven foot ceilings, the lamp as pictured leaves a full eight feet clearance so it should not be an issue. If need be I can always raise it.
