My brother and friend went climbing in Scotland 2 weeks ago and in typical UK fashion the ski lifts broke (just like the trains) and for the punters they also ran out of skis. In fact they ran into a bloke who drove up for the day and only managed 1 run all day due to the crowds. Unless you are a Telemarker or Nordic skier and enjoy the backcountry I would steer clear of the resorts as they are crazy.

I love the Milkyway area had some good times during my teaching years in that area, can get a bit busy at weekends.

Well, apart from to say SPAB is producing a DVD about Stansted, the buildings, and the history of the area, to show what will be lost if a second runway is built, and the next issue of Cornerstone I understand will have a major article regarding the historic buildings and places which will be lost at Heathrow through expansion.

I doubt he wishes to be embroiled further though in what is turning out to be one of the silliest threads on PPUK for quite some time. Carol has done her best, to articulate what I know others feel, but clearly some are too dopey to take note. Anyone raising their head above the parapet gets the cut and paste treatment and the silliness, so why should they bother?


As Gareth pointed out in another thread - the IHBC forum is underused. As this site has become so tedious, and many interesting and informed posters have ceased to post here regularly, maybe those of us with a genuine interest in historic buildings should spend our time discussing issues which impact on the historic environment there instead.

Oh, come on, Nemesis. All I was posting was a little, lighthearted illustration of some of the very mundane reasons why people may choose one form of travel rather than another.

I think many find you abusive, in a different way. I certainly do. Clearly being told in a subtle manner has no effect, so I've tried a more robust approach.

As for being 'abusive, in a different way', can you explain what you mean by this?

I really have no desire to offend anyone but I hope you'd agree that's no reason to be censored into not expressing an opinion, or facts even. I've always thought that a defining characteristic of adults is their ability to agree to disagree with out resorting to personal abuse. Eveyone else here seems to manage it.
