Thank you for the useful advice to my previous question about chimney flashings, I have since talked to two other roofers who I hope will give me more reasonable quotes. They have both said that the chimneys need re-rendering, soakers put in (as there probably are none at present), flaunches mortared, and mortar over the soakers.
Reading various threads on this site, should I try to ask if they can use lime render for the chimneys? It's very difficult to get hold of any roofers at the moment, and I've not been able to find one yet that specifically uses traditional materials.
If lime render were used on the stacks, would you also use lime mortar over the soakers and on the haunches?
The chimneys are built with stone - I'm fairly sure it's limestone. One of the builders who looked said he wouldn't put flashing in as it would ruin the stone to cut into it. If mordern mortar is used for the job, will this damage the limestone or cause problems in the future?
