Cleaner hire

Hi all
This is a bit random for this forum, but it's a bit related.
I am thinking about hiring a cleaner for a few weeks as we are doing some rooms in te house still, and areas like kitchen, bathroom and general hoovering the house are going neglected a bit.
It's dusty and getting chaotic while we also work fulltime. I have a big deadline at work that's come up; project for a few weeks, so I thought maybe we could hire professional help for the short-term.

Does anyone hire a cleaner? I've never done it before but I'm wondering if it's worth it? I'm not quite sure how often to have them round, for example, our kitchen is a tip with dirty dishes all the time and i feel like i'm just at the sink washing up constantly or cooker whenever i'm in there, nothing else. It's never tidy. We don't have a dishwasher yet either. it's just the two of us - maybe we are the problem (disorganised)?? Our bathroom is tiny! It collects a bit of dust which tbf if we kept on top of for about 15 mins daily, itd be fine, but the London limescale is the big annoyance especially on shower glass etc. It's an edwardian house that's in a diy reno state - is it a bit weird to have a cleaner come once a week, and would this even be helpful considering we have a daily issue with things building up?

I don't know if we got a cleaner once a week, it wouldn't really make a difference. I would love for someone else to please please clean our fridge (it's a big american one - why did i purchase this?!)

I’ve had a weekly cleaner in the past and yes it made quite a difference, not only to the cleanliness of the house but to how I felt about living there. At that time for me, I didn’t have the time or inclination to clean but I did have the cash to pay someone to do it (no longer, alas!)

Having said that, from your post I’d say in all honesty say that your situation (renovating) and daily habits (letting things build up) aren’t helping you! Either make peace with the fact that you’re renovating so everywhere is going to be dusty and messy for a while, or maybe get a one-off deep clean just to get you to a good state and then make it a daily habit to maintain that standard. This brings to mind the First Ladies suggestions we hire a cleaner when we were both working full time and were frequently away from home. At the time I thought it was a good idea until she announced that she had decided to hire a gardener instead. Pressed on the issue she explained that during the various interviews she found that most of the applicants for the cleaner role were ladies of a certain age and divorcees or widows while the gardener she had found could be trusted, unlike me, to look after her prized plants and young enough to take on some of the more strenuous tasks too.

Flattered on the one hand and unnerved on the other I decided to keep it firmly shut - while doing my darnest to scupper the gardeners probationary period.

If you’re in a DIY building situation then I have doubts a once a week cleaner will make much difference, because for probably 5/ 7 days it’ll be a tip and you’ll just be wasting money if that’s the case. I would set aside a time to get things organised and then pare back what crockery/ cutlery + is needed and remove the temptation to just grab a new bowl rather than wash the one you used yesterday. For cleaning Viacal and those kitchen or bathroom wipes are magic. I regard them as a secret weapon and it’s great to whizz around amd then just throw a grubby one away, not spendy compared to the cost of a cleaner.
