We've reached a thrilling stage in our little saga -
The builders have come and gone, our ground levels are where they should be, we have a shiny new bathroom and kitchen (and a downstairs loo!) and most of the painting , and its associated rubbing-down and filling-in and sanding is finished.
And on Tuesday - The Carpets Will Be Laid!!!!
So all we have to do before the great day is to get rid of all the dust and general filth that covers every horizontal surface, and this is where I want to share my best (actually, only) tip:
Instead of killing your expensive vacuum cleaner or investing in a Henry, simply hire a carpet-cleaning machine. You know the sort of thing - a little nozzle that squirts water and a suction head that sucks it all up. I know it says it's for carpets, but it can't tell the difference and it does the job brilliantly.
Courtesy of Saint Google we found an excellent firm that both delivers and collects the machine (£6.50 each way) and seems to have branches in most parts of the country. They delivered ours yesterday morning and will collect it on Monday afternoon, all for the princely sum of £47.
