Confused over pipe sizes for fitting bathroom sink

Hi All

I'm finally getting round to replacing our 1970s/80s bathroom with something more appropriate to the age of our house next weekend. Fitting the tap is causing me a few questions because I'm not familiar with the various dimensions of pipes/connectors/etc as I don't know the age of the replacement taps and have lived in different countries for the last few years which all have different diameter pipes to UK ones so please forgive my ignorance.

The sink tap that I'm installing has a single block into which the hot and cold pipes are connected separately via male, brass, threaded, screw-in connectors each with an external dimension of 12mm and an internal dimension through which the incoming water flows of 8mm. Each connector is soldered onto a length of copper pipe that looks to be 10mm in diameter (if that makes sense).

I'm hoping there are Speedfit connectors or similar that I can pop onto the 15mm hot and cold inlet pipes and that will then screw into the tap block to form a watertight seal. I've found a pair of these on eBay that are "SpeedFit Flx48 12mm X M10 Flexible Mixer Tap Hose (pair)" Would these do the job for me? Here's a link if it helps...

The good news is that there will be the adaptors you need out there. You could probably get them somewhere like Plumb Centre (now Wolseley, I think?) or perhaps one of the DIY sheds, or even better, a ‘proper’ plumbers merchants - the sort of place with just a ‘trade counter’ in the corner of an industrial unit rather than fancy showrooms. Our house has a fair bit of old screw-fitting iron pipes but whenever I’ve taken in two very different bits of pipe and asked what I need to join the two they’ve always come up with the necessary adaptors. Unfortunately, the current lockdown makes such visits a bit tricky, although I’m sure it could be argued that plumbing repairs are ‘essential’.

On a more pedantic point, what’s the approximate age of your house as I’m intrigued about what you mean by ‘more appropriate to the age of the house’. Especially considering that even 100 years ago bathrooms were fairly rudimentary by modern standards

I've taken the plunge and ordered the ebay thing on grounds that I'm not going to be able to get much around the place between now and when it arrives. We'll see what turns up and it might be useful further down the line, if not now.

By "more appropriate to the age of the house" I really should have said "Style of the house". It's a cottage. When it was built it wouldn't have had a bathroom at all! But we want something that fits, stylistically, between the coloured bathroom suite with pink carpet that goes up the side of the bath and ultra modern.

Pink carpet sounds super Sounds like you just have a monobloc setup . They come with either 8mm or 10mm tails. All DIY places have them.

In answer to your question, yes, or the M12 equivalents more probably...
