Damaged frieze

Hi Can anyone help? Or give some advice. My Victorian house has a damaged frieze I thought it was Lincrusta but have since discovered it isn't,as it is not solid. It seems to be made of out of cardboard/paper, it is very ornate and want to keep it as the rest of the frieze is in perfect condition. Has anyone seen this before and has anyone got any advice. Kind regards.

I cant quite see how much is missing. In the second photo, which seems to be upside down, is all the blue part missing, or just where the walls joined the frieze?

One possible way of copying the frieze would be to make a cast in situ using silicone rubber. After applying a releasing agent, liquid silicone rubber is applied with a brush to a sound part of the frieze. This then needs to be reinforced with plaster of Paris before taking it down. A copy of the frieze can then be made from the mould. Silicone rubbers are sold specifically for this purpose.

I am not sure what you would use to make the copy frieze once you had made the mould. Casting in plaster would be either too thick or too fragile.

maybe it is anaglypta. igf you are lucky it might still be available. I wonder if the controversial wallpaper expert (Mr Lincrusta) can help.

It could be cameoid, a precursor to lincrusta made from cotton pulp. I'd advise you send an email to mr lincrusta; he was really helpful identifying ours.
He should be able to advise on repairs too; lincrusta do a repair kit now too, it's probably a silicone based system too but the casting material may be interesting. Let us know what you find out, one of our ceilings is going to need some serious work!
Btw; lincrusta isn't all solid, we have a some high relief friezes that feel quite thin when tapped. The paper comment sounds very much like cameoid though. Google won't tell you much on the subject in my experience; definitely write to Andy (mr lincrusta)

Yes I can help but you need to send me a close up of the design so I can get a good look at it.

Also I need the height measurements, the repeat measurements and how much is damaged I will then look at a restoration kit for you.

yes it is silicone based for the mould but the casting material is very specialised in deed.

Nigel did it too, but IIRC both were plaster and things made in very high relief/ 3D, so making a replacement casting with a mold etc was doable.

The Controversial Wallpaper expert Mr Lincrusta is going to be controversial don't know where this sits, it seems to me that many people have Lincrusta, Cameiod and Lignomur, and it also seems to me that a lot of people are missing the educational side of Lincrusta so here goes, If anyone would like to attend a Lincrusta stage 1 course to learn about Lincrusta History, installation etc etc.
