Hi everyone,
I've just found this forum and am reaching out in desperation.
I have an end-terrace cottage that was built in the 1880s. It has been ruined by the previous owners, and has damp in every room on the ground floor.
Two of the four rooms have concrete floors with carpet on top, one has tiles and one has laminate flooring. The walls are all gypsum. The outside is just paint on the bricks.
I've cleared a lot of debris that was above the level of the floor along one external wall, although this particular wall is very dry.
In an ideal world, I'd dig up the concrete, relay suspended timber and plaster the walls in lime. But my pockets barely stretch to new paint.
So what do I do? I've reached the limits of my patience and I'm aware that doing nothing is just causing damage to the bricks, etc.
Everyone I know just says to do chemical injection, so I've looked into it and found some positive stories, but I know it's not the best thing for the house. But I could just about afford that and could do it myself. I'm disabled so very limited as to what work I can do.
Has anyone got any suggestions? I'm at my wit's end now! TIA.
