Hello,
I’m currently renovating my house and have the subfloor up for new plumbing etc and noticed a very musty smell, especially when it rains.
The utility room is a solid floor with tiles and backs onto the dining room which is suspended timber. I noticed an open ended clay pipe coming through the subfloor wall of the utility into the dining room (see attached pictures). When I’m in the dining room subfloor this is where the smell is the worst.
Is this an old drainage waste pipe from when the utility room was used as a scullery or is it ventilation to allow the solid floor to breathe?
I understand once the subfloor has been replaced the smell won’t be as bad and can hopefully leave through the air bricks however I would like some advice on whether I can stop the smell entirely before putting the floors back down.
Thanks in advance
