I have some penetrating damp photo attached I want to know how I should treat this and what the finishing compound is on the wall in case it needs to be removed as part of the repair.

Hi, sorry to hear about your damp situation. However I think you're unlikely to get a helpful answer here without more information. In particular more information on where this is on the house, more photos of inside and outside in relevant areas etc will be helpful. Currently this just looks like a splodge on the wall.

Fixing penetrating damp involves stopping how the water is getting in (e.g. rainwater goods etc) and ensuring the wall is able to dry out again, which means avoiding anything that might trap moisture inside the wall.
