Which particular style of pointing were you thinking of. E.g. flush, weather struck, tuck etc. There's a lot of different styles, although only a few are in common use.

That looks like cement. Lime pointing shouldn't be strong enough for that. Wants the cement hacking off and a flush or slightly recessed brushed and knocked (with the brush) finish in lime.
