Eaves guards/protectors

I can't find anything on the forum about this!

I'm having TLX Gold draped between the rafters in the photo and the builders are recommending plastic eaves guards that protect the TLX Gold above the gutters.

This kind of thing:

I don't like the idea of having these bits of plastic around on the edge of the roof and was looking—without success—for attractive alternatives.

Maybe they could do it with lead?

What's good practice on an old house?

These are used on new builds and they are not noticeable when the roof is finished, unless you’ve got exposed eaves? Apparently the modern roof membranes can rot when left exposed into a gutter. I’ve also known DPC used instead of the eaves guards.

Okay, thanks. Yeah, the builder said they will be pretty hard to see when the roof is done.

They do feel a bit more like a new-build thing, but I guess old houses were never set up to deal with TLX Gold!

I was thinking about getting them to achieve the same thing with some lead.

This is the current WIP with membrane installation.

Seems to also be quite regional, in Somerset everyone used eaves guards whereas all the trades I’ve spoken to around Surrey seem to view them as unnecessary.

We used them in Somerset, they were completely invisible from the ground and did the job, no rot or issues with the membrane
