Edwardian Faux Panelling

Good afternoon,

I wonder if anyone is able to please provide with me advice? I’ve come across what I believe to be original Edwardian scumble glazed walls in a bedroom.

The plaster and paint are delicate with some notable damage, however I’d like to stabilise so ensure no further damage occurs and preserve at least one of the walls.

May I please ask if anyone has any advice on how to accomplish this please and any products I can use, whilst being sympathetic to the original design?

I’ve attached a photo of the uncovering progress so far. I’ll hopefully remove some of the plaster along the wiring and above where I believe a dado rail used to be.

Looks very Art Deco to me and is dead gorgeous. It might have been done using a rag rolling technique that became quite fashionable again in the 1990s - my sister was doing a lot of it in her home back then.

Thank you, I love it. I did think Art Deco as well due to the geometry of the corners. I’ve done a bit of reading and this could still be an Edwardian design. I’m thinking (hoping) original to the house build in 1910 as there’s no further paint underneath, just eggshell coloured plaster and then the brick. Hard to determine the technique used though, especially with my lack of knowledge.

I’ve now discovered the remnants of what I think is a tiled laundry copper furnace and faux wood painting in other rooms which is getting quite exciting! Hoping now that a conservation team returns my enquiry’s and we can at least determine the painting date I’m trying not to pull down every wall to look behind..

Feels very 'Poirot' - the David Suchet one.

Looks like there should be a picture rail as you can see some crude patching where it ought to be. Picture rails are dust traps, but are fantastic at improving the proportions of rooms.
