External pvc frames

Good morning

Hoping someone could give me some advice. Feel like ive bitten off more than I can chew with an old house but i have certainly made my bed for the next few years.

My house is sandstone build circa 1870 with an extension put on 15 years ago.

I need to reseal the external doors and frames, what material is best to use. Will I need to use a lyme mortar or is there a better product to use.

Im not sure of the construction of the extension but im certain its not sandstone. Could I use a regular frame sealant on that window and door?

Got up my ladder to have a look at the upstairs windows and the old sealant is well passed. I have this stuff already, is it suitable to use to seal around the pvc frames?

Plan is to cut all the old stuff out, clean it up maybe with sugar soap, pre damp it, work around with the lime mortar on each frame.

Even though the extension is not sandstone, can I still use lime mortar on it for continuity throughout. Id rather not use a frame sealant.

The traditional way to finish around windows is with burnt sand mastic (sometimes called trowel mastic). Its very sticky but I don't know how well it would adhere to PVC. The interwebs seem to be divided on that. If you search this forum you should find some previous discussions which seem to favour modern stuff.

I use a modern mastic like Soudal 215 LM to fill the gap between frame and masonry then finish with a fillet of burnt sand mastic for additional protection and to give it the traditional look. My windows are timber framed however.
