The Hoover is probably enjoying the rest.

I used an old Dyson for about two years without the filters fitted to pick up all sorts of building rubbish. It worked great cleaning up the wall before repointing for example and I connected it to the wall chaser when running cables. Considering the amount of dust and rubble that went through it, I was surprised that it lasted as long as it did. It finally failed when dust (due to the lack of filters) caused one of the main motor bearings to wear out and seize. I've now moved on to the new Dyson (at least 10 years old) and we will see how long that lasts. I'm trying to keep the filters in to protect the motor bearings but they do block really quite quickly when used to pick up building dust.AMc said:I used our elderly dyson for a number of clean ups after building work clogging the filters with brick and plaster dust. I quite enjoyed the fact that it would overheat after about 30 mins which made it impossible to clean the house properly. However this couldn't go on forever and I had to clean the filters and actually clean the house before the house was filled with guests at Christmas.
