Heating Strategy - Georgian Home

Hi. Looking for some help with heating strategy. Heading into Winter, I’m not sure if I should be heating rooms I’m not using (and if it’s OK to do so).

Also I’m not sure if heating those rooms causes condensation to form on the windows. Some mornings I need to vacuum all the windows in the house.

I want to do what’s best to prevent any issues… also looking to not spend a fortune having the heating on all the time!

The house is a two storey 4 bed Georgian property. Single glazed sash windows everywhere. Any advice greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Not worth overheating, but equally having cold rooms may reduce the effectiveness of those you do heat losing temp depending on many factors.

Low background heat is the best plan, keep the fabric from getting cold. Will also help with dew points and less condensation.

Single glazing will often need daily vacuuming. Look into magnetic secondary glazing, cheapest window option and the most effective.

Thanks. Just looking around and have noticed what looks like faint spots on the inside of the external walls (difficult to spot against patterned wallpaper). Possibly a bit of damp/mould? I’m assuming regular heating will help with this.

Is there a good strategy or best sequence for heating and ventilation. Heat then ventilate? Or can it be done in any order?
