Lets not get started on the structural design...There is a dormer, and it's an asymmetric roof, with this being the longer side....but there is an awful lot of material going in. Sigh.

And yes, we love our builders - I owe them a beer or three for sure.

I still get to do a few small casting jobs though... One of them is a ridge cresting for a Summerhouse at a neighbours house. I'll take a photo of it if FF will upload it for me!!

One of the larger old houses in the village has all is roof ridges in lead, is that a similar thing?

Could be although these are quite small, about 4" high as they will be on a low roof. I did the ridges for the Law Courts in London years ago. They were Fleur de Lis and weighed just over a cwt each. From memory I did about 90 of them, also St Marys (?) at Berkeley in Gloucestershire. Got a very poor photo of them somewhere...

Spoke to our excellent plasterer and he is going to pop some new lime render up on the knackered wall at the end of the house

That made us chuckle!
I like doing fried bread (remembering to oil the bread and not the pan) with slices of salt and pepper Tiger baguettes from a well known supermarket but was sadly bereft of said stick so used the colonial shredded potato wedges as a substitute. They did get toast

That made me chuckle - they have now been renamed in the FamilyWiggs household.

And, although I look down upon them with a faintly superior contempt, I must admit that they are rather nice on a breakfast that has been adulterated by that other abomination - beans. A proper breakfast has tinned plum tomatoes (whole, not chopped mush). 8)

Urgh - tinned, soft, horrible plum tomatoes are the work of the devil. OK when chopped & used in cooking, but never to be eaten on their own. Grilled fresh tomatoes are fine, as are a nice big dollop of baked beans :wink:

Anyway, you've all missed the biggest crime of all - no black pudding. What cooked breakfast can truly be worthy of the name without a nice slice of dried pigs blood, eh? I do hope you're "darn sarf" Jackpoint - that omission would be a crime to builders in many northern climes.

(I feel hungry now. Despite having been in a hotel this week and therefore enjoying cooked breakfasts most mornings, probably knocking a week off my life expectancy in the process! Extra black pud & mushrooms though )

We were very lucky to have these guys with us on Sunday - they spent the day on the scaffolding being fed by Mum and Dad and performing little test flights
