Why is nothing simple with an old building? Anyway a new question not involving hollowing out my oak beam.
The intention was/is to extract the hob fumes to the outside using 204x 60 plastic ducting. All is okay as will hidden under plasterboard.
So this afternoon merrily cut hole in outside wall so as to fit ducting outlet. The inside is clay lump and I assumed this went through the whole depth
of the wall plus a bit of render to the outside. No I find as you can see from the photos the render is affixed to a wire mesh set some 50mm forward of the clay lump/
Now I would not see as a problem except the pilot hole I drilled through the wall went through the clay lump and then a piece of wood. Am assuming the wood was an
original support piece.Buggar I thought I do not really want to hack this out as the 204 x 60 hole would completely split this upright wood. I assumed it was a supporting
timber but on reflection looking at photos 2 and 3 it is not supporting very much as it is between two windows. So I am game to chop out my original hole and expect it to be okay.
is this a wise move? I could if needed make a piece of metal rectangular duct to fit inside but I think it is unnecessary.
