I am currently in the process of restoring the front Barton of my Victorian property with chevron style setts and some quarry tiles. Initially I planned to compact the base with around 75-100mm of MOT sub base type 1 and lay the reclaimed quarry tiles (6 x 6 inch x 18mm thick) on to a cement and sharp sand mix. I am more interested in using an NHL method. I’ve read a post on this forum whereby a contributor layed a 75-50mm NHL 5 and and dry mix and set out tiles directly on to this for a kitchen I believe but this is an outdoor project.
I’ve added some haunched bricks since this photo was taken to create a barrier for the different levels between the main patio area and the path. Some rope border edging will be used to separate the path and patio.
The main reason for undertaking this project was to reduce the level of the layers that had been add over the building’s lifetime. The level used to come up to the top of the base terracotta.
Will be interested to hear your advice. Thanks in advance.
