Hi all. New to this site, but there’s loads of useful info - thank you all
We’re in the process of moving house and trying to choose between a Lias Stone barn conversion and a 17C black and white timber cottage.
Having previously had a highly insulated (but ugly!) 1960’s building, we’re looking forward to the period features and a more compact home. But what should we be thinking about in terms of their sustainability and maintenance?
I’ve been trying to find out their relative thermal properties - the stone building has been beautifully done, but has interior and exterior exposed stone. The timber frame has brick exterior and wattle/daub interior. Both have small single glazed metal windows.
Obviously we will get a specialist survey (especially for the listed timber building) but what should we be asking/considering?
Thanks in anticipation
