Hi All,
I commissioned a brickie familiar with with Lime Mortar who was scheduled to come mid September to rake out and repoint a unheated porch, balcony wall and upper decorative bricks.
Unfortunately the previous job was delayed, and so work started on mine in October, most of it is raked out but the balcony wall needs to be rebuilt now as it's too weak
We are based in south east London, so our winters are pretty moderate. However I am conscious that the lime cannot freeze for a period.
What are peoples thoughts about fresh lime mortar being pointed up and used to rebuild a wall in the next 1-2 weeks. Is it now utterly insane or actually it should be okay, as there is normally a little settling outer coat that dries and then protects the rest even if it did drop below 0 degrees one day over the few months it needs to do the business.
Accuweather suggests a forecast drops to a low of 3 degrees (8th November) but stays above zero for most of the month. (See attachments).
Will it be okay? The brickie doesnt see it as an issue and says he has lots of sheeting to protect it from rains.
