I recently had to remove some peeling wallpaper from my kitchen wall. It's a Grade II listed building dating back to around 1850. Some of the skim coat came away with the paper revealing the substrate underneath (see attached). What is this stuff underneath? I'm assuming some kind of original lime render? And what is the 'skim coat' likely to be made of? What's the best method and materials for patching this up?
