Hi,
We have an old extension (done late 1800's - house build early 1800's) which was rendered originally. He have records with the house to show it was re-rendered in early 1980's but in sand and cement unfortunately. It is cracking, letting water in and also has moss growing out of some of the cracks. We are getting it re-rendered in fat lime. Another unfortunate thing they did in the 1980's was to put a concrete floor down on one of the small rooms on the ground floor of that extension. To properly correct the extenion would require removing this concrete floor in that room and using limecrete in its place. Also, to fat lime plaster the internal walls since any internal plastering carried out after the external render could disturb it.
We have only received a quote so far for the concrete floor in that small ground floor room (10 sqr mtrs) which is £6500. It inlcudes everything (and vat) for removal of old floor, materials, installation of new floor etc. However, seems very steep to me. It is in Hertfordshire where prices are high anyway and he is arguably the best in the area. Also, if it is this expensive should I just leave the floor since it is just one small room and may not be contributing to the damp?
Any advice about this is much appreciated.
